Holiday House NYC is an interior design exhibition set in a historic mansion on the Upper East Side of Manhattan that features top designers and their holiday inspirations to raise breast cancer awareness in the design industry.
In 2014, Ms. Ibáñez was sponsored by Gaggenau to work with the existing walk-in closet of the master bedroom. At that point a very static space, she wanted to create a more interactive and dynamic room that would be a more convenient and interesting addition to the bedroom for a relaxing style of living, which is how this space was converted into a kitchenette.
As the Holiday House was in preparation for the holiday season, Ms. Ibáñez wanted to create a sparkling space inspired by snow flakes providing glitter and reflecting the spiritual light of the season. She was inspired by the calm purity of a white snowy afternoon in Central Park, the reflectance of an icicle under a beam of sunlight, the peace of looking at a star-filled night sky, reflecting on our own existence and my fascination for the light and spirituality, which she channeled into her design. With my connections to vendors, Ms. Ibáñez was able to procure custom glass and mirrored kitchen cabinets, custom art pieces and wall-coverings, as well as various rare materials and furniture to make her design come to life.
Ms. Ibáñez wanted to communicate “the promise of the return of sunlight after a period of darkness; the glimmered light of the universe reflected in our interior space” under a concept called “Winter Solstice” where everything was meant to be white and silver, pure, and full of positive energy.
